The sun is shining, the birds are tweeting... even that frosty chill has subsided a little! Is summer FINALLY upon us? Let's hope so, as we're having visions of spending Sundays in the park, wearing shorter sleeves, tight-less legs and lighter, airier scents.
My summer fragrance recommendations all descend from top fashion houses, so let's take a look at their spring/summer 2009 collections, alongside their best selling scents:
Gucci
On the catwalk: Traditional pastels and cute, colourful neckerchiefs capture the essence of the season. More innovatively, sumptuous purple and metallic accessories contrast with earth tones and khaki. The main themes here are classically pretty and glam meets jungle.
The scent: Gucci Envy eau de toilette.
Top notes: magnolia, jasmine, lily of the valley
Middle notes: iris, violet, sandalwood
Base notes: vetivir, musk, moss
Envy is a sweet, grassy fragrance and is light and natural.
Prada
On the catwalk: Deconstructed, slouchy pieces and distressed leather are paired with vivid brights (bottle green, red) and, again, flashy metallic accents. Think post-apocalyptic princess, jazzed up by colour and glitz.
The scent: Prada Infusion D'Iris eau de parfum.
Top notes: mandarin, orange blossom, neroli
Middle notes: Iris Pallida
Base notes: incense, benzoin, cedarwood
Infusion D'Iris is summery, fresh and intriguingly woody. It is a grown-up scent for all you sophisticated types.
Lacoste
On the catwalk: Classic sportswear meets St. Tropez- clean lines and neutral colours are the order of the day, with more than a touch of the nautical. It's fresh, neat and preppy.
The scent: Lacoste Touch Of Spring eau de toilette.
Top notes:of acquatic, quince blossom
Middle notes: osmanthus, water lily, Hosta leaf
Base notes: musks, sandalwood.
Touch Of Spring is reminiscent of the seaside and is best suited to youthful outdoorsy types.
Versace
On the catwalk: Striking jewel colours, bold silhouettes and flamboyant prints sit alongside black body con dresses. The juxtaposing main themes are daring extravagance and timeless elegance.
The scent: Versace Bright Crystal eau de toilette.
Top notes: yuzu, ice accord, pomegranate
Middle notes: peony, magnolia, lotus flower
Base notes: acajou, plant amber, musk
Bright Crystal is a mellow, fruity/floral fragrance for true girly girls.
