Awesome Modern Kitchen Design Ideas

The fact is that in just the same way that things like clothing, shoes, and fashion accessories go in and out of style, home, and kitchen designs also change over the years. So if you're perhaps wondering what on earth the original builder was thinking when he or she came up with the design scheme for your kitchen some years back, the truth is that at that time it was probably the latest style.

Now there are two ways to go about changing the look of your kitchen, and the first one is to throw a ton of money onto it. That is to hire someone and pay them all they need to come up with a brand new, up to date look. The problem here though, is that you can go through a heck of a lot of money real fast redoing a kitchen.

The other way, is to do it yourself and before you even start in, you need to scout out all the very best and most clever ways to get the most redecorating results for your money. So then keep on reading because I've laid out some of the better fast change tricks that I have seen over the years.

Starting with your cabinets, you can give them a real fast and affordable new look by simply changing out "old for new" the knobs on the doors, and drawers. Now it sounds a little hard to believe. That is until you find a good hardware outlet that has a sizable selection to choose from. Just bring a couple home and put them on to check it out and it will make a believer out of you.

Then before you jump into a massive repainting or refinishing job on those same cabinets, go and take a look at what can be done with stencils. Stencilled on designs take hours, not days and weeks. They also allow you to impart a motif and new catchy to your cabinets with the particular type of stencilled on design that you use.

Then if your kitchen sink is bothering you, and you're ready for a new look, don't tear it all out. Instead try out a brand new faucet set to change the look. It works. You simply can't lose because you most likely need a new faucet anyway, so if you do end up wanting a new sink, you haven't lost any money. Also with the money you save by not buying a sink, you can purchase a real sweet top of the line faucet set.

Now polished granite counter tops are in now, and they can work magic on a new kitchen. There's just no doubt about that. Even so, before you rush right out and plunk down some ungodly amount of money on brand new polished granite, or marble, you need to check out some of the new man made, cultured stone counter tops.

The newer product that's available now looks "amazing" and I'll bet you can't tell the difference from the real thing when it comes to black granite. Even with your nose right up on it. It just looks that real. It doesn't stop there either because unlike real stone, with the new cultured stone scratches, and chips can be easily hand polished out. Do yourself a favour, and at least go, and have a look at it.

Lovely How to Avoid Pits and Falls of Smartphone Application Development?

When most of the company's officials meet me, they ask a similar question. Why their mobile applications didn't give the desired result? The answer is simple, Smartphone applications development require something more than mere programming. Today's post will uncover how to avoid most common pits and falls of mobile application development.Whether you are developing iPhone, Android, J2Me or Blackberry application yourself or getting it developed from a social media agency, you need to take care of the following pointers.

Forgetting the User

Usually the application developers are technical guys not like you and me. When they develop they focus on the application, its function and compatibility. Most of the time, they forget the user of the application. If this is the case you must understand why, who and how is the user going to use this application.

Over specifying yourself

If you think you are developing an application only for iPhone because you customers use only this platform think again. Your application must be focused to be compatible with every platform from developments side as well as from viewers screen size and navigation purposes. If your apps limits to only your specification you are going to bound yourself.

Limited Considerations

If your application doesn't give freedom to the user like colors then it surely going towards a limitation. Most users find difficult to read with different colors. Color, clarity and choice is what your customer is looking for, else other choices are also welcoming.

Ignoring Integration

When you designed mobile application is isolated in itself the user would easily get bored and switched towards a better option. Ignoring integration is the last mistake you can make. Instead try to insert options for integration with your web, social networks and emails to give freedom of expression to the user.

Over doing it

If you develop an application that is jack of all but master of none, it's not going to work. Most users like solutions for their problems rather than an application for distraction. This means your application must be a focused one and its usage must be optimized according to traveling needs.

Indifferences

If you application seems to function differently on different platform it is an alarming sigh. You must look for intuitive applications controls and these apps must perform with the same speed and functions on every platform you use.

Elegant Dog House Designs Options

If you are a dog owner, it is important to decide carefully on how your pet's house would look like. There are various dog house designs available from which you can choose from. There are literally hundreds or even thousands of blogs, design contractors and companies that can help you decide on the home of your beloved dog's home.

A lot of people would most likely pick a plain, simple, and traditional design of a dog house. However, some are more willing to experiment so they follow modern celebrity trends. Some well-off dog owners would even come up with a grand design for their dog's house. Some designs are Hacienda-like or colonial in nature.

Dog houses can either be indoor or outdoor. Therefore, the designs should be customized as well depending on your area.

For dog owners who live inside townhouses or condominiums, it is expected that there is a little space available where the dog house can be placed. There are different topnotch and classy dog house designs that can actually fit inside your home. You can be resourceful and creative by turning end and coffee tables into a getaway for your pet. You can build custom cupboard and sofas that can allow your dog to have its privacy, which is quite important in avoiding sources of stress.

On the other hand, outdoor designs of dog house are almost limitless. Perhaps, you are already familiar with the traditional design. Meanwhile, some are more than willing to invest on full-blown fancy designs of dog house.

Specifically, a barn-style or farmhouse style dog house is a good option that is best for an outdoor setting. Such designs can be custom made or ready-made. Usually, they come in affordable price tags, mainly due to the stiff competition among pet accessory stores and manufacturers these days.

Lots of designs of dog house can be made with interesting designs such as mock chimneys, self-retracting doors, and windows. If you plan to come up with your own, you need to make sure you have concrete plans on how you will go about building it up. Your option is to look for someone who is already experienced in such a task so you can have someone to help you out. As for the design for your dog's would-be house, you can browse some designs posted online or printed on different pet care magazines.

You should also consider different factors before deciding on the design of the dog house for your pet. One factor that you should consider is apparently the environment you are in. If it is a small space, you should only limit the size of the dog house. However, do not deprive your dog a space where it can freely move. Also, check your budget. You should not overspend for a dog house. While your dog must be comfortable inside the dog house, you should still consider your resources.

You can always give the best for your pet without having to spend too much.

New Space Saving Ideas

Clutter is a pretty sure-fire way of the limited space of your already diminutive home appearing to be smaller than ever so, what better way could there be of instantly making your minuscule home look bigger than to gather together some space saving ideas for de-cluttering and finding storage solutions that provide adequate homes for items that really don't need to be on show 24/7. There are all kinds of space saving ideas, however, apart from storage solutions - ideas for kitchen implements and small electrical gadgets to space saving ideas in the bedroom, the lounge or, in fact, for any aspect of your life. When it comes to small scale living, necessity really is the mother of invention!

Nowadays, people occupy small homes for many reasons, aside from cost. Often, those people who do live in little properties love their compact lifestyle and just need space saving ideas to make the most of what they have. Basically, clever storage solutions abound and are only limited by the boundaries of our imagination. Take, for instance, an old property that was built during the 19th century. It may never have occurred to you, but there is considerable wasted space beneath the floorboards of older properties - in some cases, as much as 30cm which is the depth of a good-sized drawer. Obviously, if your rooms have fitted carpets or laminate flooring then this wouldn't be a viable option. It is, however, a great idea if your rooms consist of sanded and varnished floorboards and you readily have access to beneath the floorboards.

Moving on with the idea of saving space, one particular good space saving idea is to vac-pack your clothing. This is especially good if you have seasonal clothing hanging around [literally!] which is taking up valuable space in your closet, or if, as with so many women, you have clothes that you intend to slim down into but can't quite get the zip up comfortably quite yet! Putting the clothes you are not using everyday into a plastic bag and removing the air from it is probably one of the best ideas for saving space. In fact, you can save as much as 75% of closet space with one of the JML Vac-Pac systems: for a reasonable price you get two bags per pack, fill each bag with clothes and then just apply the vacuum cleaner nozzle and suck out all the air. Not only does this save space, but if you iron your clothes before packing them, you will be amazed how they come out of storage completely wrinkle-free.

The kitchen is another great place for space saving ideas. One I particularly like is the Japanese coffee-toast-egg maker. This is a counter-top machine with integral functions for making toast, brewing fresh coffee and poaching eggs and, when you're in a hurry, it's great because it all happens together - you can get an egg on toast for the same time as it takes to brew your coffee. An idea along similar lines comes from Back to Basics, with their egg and muffin toaster. This particular machine enables you to boil up to four eggs at the same time or, if you prefer your eggs poached, scrambled or as omelettes, you can do that too. When you get down to it, space saving ideas abound and are only limited by the boundaries of your imagination - so, give it some thought and you are almost certain to come up with some innovative ideas to save you space and time.

Inspirational Making the Right Choice in Garden Pond Liners

Building your garden pond is work but for most they find it enjoyable work, and part of the tasks required to completing the job is to pick the proper garden pond products which includes choosing a pool liner.

You are going to have to make the decision about your pond liner before you actually start to construct your garden pond. If you decide to go with a preformed type, then your excavation has to be done according to the form. Using a soft liner is most often a choice that many make because if allows for more flexibility in designing a shape for the garden pond. People can be more creative when choosing these types.

There are things that you need to consider though when choosing your pond liner. The make and size are the two key issues.

Quality
The quality of your liner is very important. If you have been given a used one, be very cautious about using this. Often the older ones can become brittle and will crack when you try to lay them. Then there could be leaks that you cannot see but will soon discover when you fill your pond.

No doubt you have put a great deal of work into your pond and now is not the time to start cutting corners. Good quality garden pond liners are most affordable, and are a very important part of your water garden. You also want to be sure that the materials that the pond liners are constructed of contain no harmful chemicals, and will provide a safe environment for your fish and plant life.

Ease of Installation
Installing your pond liner should not be all that difficult. If you have purchased a liner that is of good quality it should be durable, and flexible. Many of these pond liners are lightweight enough that they are easy to maneuver and put into place.

Choosing the right size
This is a very important step to be sure that the liner fits properly. If it does not, it may not hold the water properly, and it will look unsightly. To determine the size that you need there is a simple formula.

For the width you need
Find the widest part of your pond and measure this. Then determine the depth of your pond and multiply this by 2 then add 2 more.
So for example, the widest point is 10 feet, it is 2 feet deep, this would mean for width you would need 10'+4'+2', for a total of 16 feet in width.

For the length you need
You would do the same for the length using the same formula. If the longest length was 15 feet, then you would need, 15'+4+2, for a total of 21feet in length.

Garden pond liners are normally sold in 5ft. increments. So for this example you would need to purchase a 20'x25' liner.

This formula takes into account the requirements needed for lining the walls of the pond and a safety overlap.

Best of Gardening and Design

We dedicate plenty of time and money creating a perfect home for everyone to enjoy, but there's an additional 'room' outside that with a bit of effort can be an extension of your indoor living space. Learning the basics of gardening permits you to let your imagination run free and develop your garden into an 'outdoor room' that can suits your needs, your personality and those of your family.

Structure what shape do you want your 'room' to be?

The first thing to think about when gardening is what space do you have to work with and how would you like to lay out your outside room. What activities are going to take place in your garden should it serve as an additional dining area for al fresco dinner parties or would you prefer a garden that still serves a traditional purpose and reflects planting as much as usable space?

Thinking about the structure and design is your starting point for any gardening project. If cash to fund your project is limited, think about how you can keep your existing layout but perhaps create new points of interest through the use of spotlight planting, eye-catching ornaments or paths that create routes through the garden to and secret surprises.

Colouring your garden for all seasons. Colour is what makes many gardens interesting. The beauty of a cottage garden style with colour and freedom or the deceptive simplicity of a 'white garden' can reflect your personality and your own design preferences. In the same way that paint can alter the mood of a room, colour in a garden can reflect the changing seasons or make a bold, brash statement. Blocks of colour work well, but think about how each bed will look throughout the seasons and consider how the garden will look in autumn and winter, not just spring and summer.

With some careful planning, you can create an outdoor room that changes with the seasons. Bold yellows and purples of daffodils and crocuses in spring give way to swathes of multi coloured borders as summer arrives. In the autumn flowers often give way to larger plants and bushes providing structure and offering a tapestry of golds, reds and browns and during the winter months evergreens and late flowering plants such as hellebores can surprise those who have no winter expectations of a garden.

Creating a living space in your garden is something many gardeners aim for. Your garden doesn't just have to be an illustration of your gardening skills. It can also be a space that can be enjoyed for different hobbies by creating separate areas. By sectioning off your garden you often create an illusion of having more space ideal if your garden has a limited footprint. A decked area close to the house is perfect for al fresco dining or enjoying summer evenings with friends, while a separate section can be set aside as a play area for children.

How you use this 'outdoor room' is limited only by your own imagination. In forthcoming reviews we'll consider ideas to help you get the best from your gardening and to create various outdoor rooms, ranging from traditional cottage gardens through to ultra-modern urban settings.

Lovely Gardening by Yard

If you have a tiny yard and would like a simple but well-maintained garden, you only need two things - determination and know-how.  Here are some tips on how to keep your garden by the yard looking spruced up and glamorous.

1. Deadheading
Keep your border free from wilted flowers and dried leaves. Deadheading or removing dead flower heads will encourage the plants to produce more blooms for longer. Many perennials such as geraniums and dahlias, and some annuals benefit from having spent blooms removed

3. Pinch out tops.
Certain plants - especially foliage plants like Coleus - respond with a spurt of growth when their tops are pinched out. Pinching out makes the plant much bushier and so more blooms are produced. Fuchsias are prone to becoming leggy unless they are pinched out.

4. Fertilize lightly.
A minimal amount of fertilizer will further boost the growth of your vegetation. If you water your yard frequently, you have to fertilize it more regularly because of nutrient depletion. A fortnightly application of liquid fertilizer is sometimes more beneficial than granules as it is more readily absorbed by the leaves. Container plants will be considerably healthier with a half-strength solution of liquid fertilizer applied regularly.

5. Weed out.
This is one of the best ways to preserve the beauty of your garden by the yard.  Remember, weeds compete with your plants for both nutrients and moisture. If the weeds are not close to seeding, leave them on the bed to rot down for mulch. If you must use a weedicide, try and get a wick applicator, rather than a spray. This will protect you plants from spray-drift.

6. Water them well
One good tip when it comes to watering your garden by the yard is to give it a thorough soaking once a week, making sure there is no run-off to cause erosion. Deep watering will encourage the growth of deeper roots that will be able to withstand dry spells weatherwise

7. Say no to chemicals
Chemicals are dangerous to humans and often kill the natural predators of the pest in your garden, so avoid them if possible. There are many organic alternatives that work almost as well.

Beautiful How to Choose and Plan for Koi Pond Plants

To create a lush water garden design that enhances your beautiful fish you will want to choose a variety of Koi pond plants so that you have a balanced look and ecosystem. There are several types of plants you can include.

The first type are SUBMERGED PLANTS like Anacharis and Cabomba. These are planted underwater in the gravel or soil and they will help to oxygenate your pond. They do this by pulling carbon dioxide from the water and releasing oxygen as part of the photosynthesis process.

Another type are the FLOATING PLANTS. Many of these plants provide your garden with lovely flowers. The root systems that drift below the surface actually act like a filtration device, which is why some sanitation plants use Water Hyacinth as part of their purification process. Plants such as the Water Hyacinth and Water Lettuce also may serve as camouflage for your pond filter or other pond equipment.

MARGINAL PLANTS like Cattails and Irises do best in the shallow water or wet soil around the edge of your Koi pond. They grow up above the water. Marginal Koi pond plants make an ideal way to transition from pond to the surrounding area in a gradual way.

The final type of pond plants are FLOWERING WATER LILIES. They are the essence of any water garden or Koi pond. They are similar to marginal plants in that their roots grow underwater, while the leaves and flowers emerge above the surface. Lilies will spread across your pond surface. They aid in providing shade and shelter as well as aesthetic appeal.

The following are some of the items that are necessary for planting and tending to your Koi pond plants:

~Planting Baskets These baskets will contain and anchor your plants on submerged shelves. You can also use floating island planters to create one-of-a-kind floating arrangements.

~Aquatic Planting Media boosts the ability of root systems to gain a firm foothold and get well established for the growing season.

~Aquatic Fertilizers are used to promote blooms, lush foliage, and strong roots in aquatic plants.

~Pruning Tools give you the extra reach to trim and sculpt plants for a well-manicured Koi water garden.

The above suggestions include the basics that will give you a good start on planting and maintaining beautiful and healthy Koi pond plants.

Inspirational Home Lighting Design

If you are buying, building, decorating or re-decorating your home, you will soon realise that so many different aspects of house design and interior decoration work together to create a home. The size and shape of the rooms, the style of the furnishings, the colours, the furniture, accessories and clutter, or lack of them, all build up a picture of your lifestyle, personality and tastes. Every one's home, irrespective of style or luxury or lack of it should be beautiful in its own way, however different and individualistic it may be. Most people do care about their homes and do stamp them with the imprint of their uniqueness.

Probably not much comes close to creating atmosphere like lighting, and yet so often its impact is overlooked. Too many people choose light fittings just because they have an attractive design. This, of course is important, but nowhere near the most important part.

Perhaps you have designed your room but somehow it just doesnt match up to the way you imagined it would be. Your furnishings and colours are text book perfect, but something is wrong. Most likely you will find that everything falls into place and looks the way you dreamed it would, once your lighting is corrected.

Lighting is a really very complex part of your dcor. You may need a lot of expert help and advice before you finally install the fittings. Many websites, light fitting providers, decorators and home decor shops can help you choose, and explain the effects of their light fittings.

When you visit friends who have caught the right atmosphere, look to see what they have done, and question them. They will most likely be flattered rather than offended! Even look at what lighting effects you see in stores and shops. Their lighting is usually professionally designed to enhance their wares in particular ways.

You also need to look at magazine photographs that catch the appeal you are looking for, and study them carefully. Ask yourself lots of questions:

Which way do the shadows fall? What is the lighting colour and type? From which direction is the light coming? How high up or low down are the light fittings? Are they concealed or revealed? Is the room evenly lit or are certain areas or objects highlighted? What types of lights flatter which colours? When you have answered all these questions, you will be a whole lot closer to designing the lighting you need.

Dont forget the exterior of your house, your garden and outside features such as swimming pools, ponds and water features. This is the first impression that arriving visitors get of you and yours. A garden at night turns into a mysterious fairyland and your house lighting draws one with a welcoming warmth you can never capture in daylight. All water lends itself to light treatments, whether the cool, smooth, blue glow of a pool or twinkling diamonds cascading down a waterfall. The mystery and magic of the night only emphasise the beauty of light.

Best of Three Things to Consider when Choosing Pond Pumps

Once you have decided that you are going to install a garden pond, one of the most important tasks you will have is choosing one of the many garden pond pumps available on the market.

There are going to be three areas to consider when choosing the garden pond pump that is best suited for you particular pond. You are going to have to decide on the type, the brand and the power that you are going to need in your pump. When making your decision in each of these areas, you have to give some thought to each one of them on their own merits.

== >> Type
You will find that you have two choices of types of pond pumps. There is the external type which means it sits on the outside of your pond, and then there are the submersible pumps that are put in the pond totally underwater. Both have their advantages and you will need to give some thought and consideration as to which is most appropriate for you.

If cost is an issue, then you will find that the external pond pumps are less expensive and they also use less energy, which means there is some cost-saving factors here as well. The disadvantage to the external pump is that they do make some noise, and this may overpower the ambience of your garden pond. The submersible types are more expensive, but because they are totally submersed under the water you don't have to contend with the noise.

== >> Brand
With some careful planning and shopping around, you really can install garden ponds without having to spend a fortune. However it is very important that you purchase pond pumps that are of excellent quality, because you don't want to be running the risk of having to repair or replace them, or running into potential problems with your pond.

Pond pumps have the job of keeping your water circulating which is a necessity to keep your pond free and clear of any problems. You will find that the various garden pond pumps run at different price ranges, but a little bit of research will help you to determine what are the most favored and reliable ones on the market.

== >> Power
You are going to need to know how many gallons of water your water garden is holding. The general consensus of choosing a pond pump is to choose one that can move the water completely within every hour and a half. So if you have a 400 gallon pond then your pump should have the capability of being able to move 300 gallons of water per hour.

There are other things to consider as well though. You will have to take into account the shape of your pond and what the pond contains, as it could interfere with the water circulation.

By paying attention to these three specific areas you will have no difficulty in finding the right pond pump for your particular water garden needs. Also consider your future plans for your garden pond as well. If you feel that you are going to be adding several more items to it, then keep this in mind when purchasing your water garden pump.

Lovely Home Theater Design

A lot of planning goes into designing a home theater, not only placement of hardware but aesthetics and functionality. Certain questions arise when approaching these possibilities.

A. Is my system strong enough to support my theater?
B. What is the viewing size of my screen?
C. What is my viewing area?
D. How am I surrounding my audience?
E. How comfortable are my patrons?

Let's start with "Is my system strong enough to support my theater".

My first thought is what am I trying to accomplish with my theater? I arrive at this question as I look at craigslist.com in my area, because I see people selling hardware based on their "idea" of what good hardware is. Now let me say this that all of this is subjective, we all have our own thoughts and feelings about what is right and wrong and this is by now means concrete. These are my opinions only. So with that, let us proceed. If ever you have never ventured out to a high fidelity vendor, most of this will sound pompous.

If you regularity shop Best Buy or Circuit City I am sorry to say you have never heard great sound. Not to put those stores down but they serve the many not the few. And now a days they are providing better equipment, but my faith remains in the niche stores that know. Now, in hopes to save face, it is probably because you never knew to seek out such sources. So again, is my "system" strong enough to support my theater? Well, who are you trying to support? Are you a family of five, single, or is it just you and your wife/husband? For me it's just me and my wife Cheri.

Anyway, a family of five will ultimately need more room obviously, so sound power becomes an issue naturally. A theater for less people becomes less stringent based on sheer volume. Not to say that quality needs to be reserved for the many, like I say it is just me and Cheri, yet we can support the many but reserve the quality for ourselves. Selfish? You decide.

Anywho, let us continue with the size of the viewing area. Now, this all becomes moot if we are sitting around a 27" screen. Being that the whole HDTV thing is happening and the FCC is going digital at the end of 2009 we are talking about LCD's and Plasma TV's in the sizes of 48" or greater, sorry, so, anything less is really not home theater, period, again my apologies.

Looking at the viewing area, if you are not containing your audience within your speakers more to the point if you have people outside your sound stage, then you have lost the effect that you have been trying to achieve all along. Understand this: A theater is dynamic. Once outside the envelope of sound, your theater is nothing more than a TV, loudly. You will have lost frontal dynamic, side surround encompass, and rear finality, and based on your financial commitment to your theater, depth as far as subsonic values.

I am amazed at all the formats of surround systems now available, currently 5.1, 7.1 and, 9.1 have their audiences. I am a fan of 7.1, which means two mains left and right a center channel two side surrounds and two rear surrounds. I have a subwoofer, however my front sound stage all employ subs built in so the .1 signal is sent to all three main speakers including my subwoofer which I can dial down to eliminate all the signals only to produce the frequencies that deliver the punch of deep bass. This becomes relevant in frequencies so low they are not heard but felt, like explosions that give movies realism.

Room size and personal preference yield to surround sound experience and there are no hard rules to go by. You as the buyer of your hardware would only know what you are attempting, but remember keep your audience within your sound stage but at the same time expand your sound stage as far as possible. This happens with experimentation and knowing your gear. Don't be a hard head, read your owner's manuals; the manufactures know your products better than you do, even if you don't want to admit it.

Lastly, as the host of your theater, if you put all this time in to it, be gracious, you have all the time to enjoy your theater, let your guests sit in the best seats in the house.

Awesome Interior Design

While door handles may be small objects they form an important part of your home's interior design.  More Handles are dedicated to making sure you have enough choice to make your home the way you want it to be. Their range of Door Handles, Door Knobs and other Door Furniture is extremely extensive and forms an ever evolving catalogue of choices for your home.

Highlights from the 2010-2011 range include:

Kirkpatrick Door Knob On Backplate

The Kirkpatrick Door Knob makes an elegant statement, with its scrollworked backplate complementing the ornate knob itself. As part of the black antique range of Door furniture available at More Handles it is very suitable for cottages and period style houses, bringing a sense of weight and authenticity to the details of such a home.

Drawer Pull Shell

Drawer pull shells are a great alternative to the usual Knobs and Handles. This example is finished in brightly polished brass and beautifully fluted to add a touch of class to any drawer front, be it in a kitchen or on fixed furniture. Brass is an excellent material to match with either painted surfaces or bare wood and if kept polished it can add a lovely warm sparkle to any room in your house.

Iris Door Handle Shortplate

The Iris Door handle is one of those designs that one might feel has always existed. The simple shaped extrusion is unobtrusive and yet perfectly designed for easy operation, perfect proportions and a subtlety that means it will fit with almost any contemporary design, from new build comfort, to severe minimalism.

Shakespear Ringturn in Pewter

The Shakespear Ringturn is an example of what is rapidly turning into a new wave of gothic chic products though it is almost unique in its presentation. The ring turn takes its styling from traditional lift latches but applies this to modern Door Knob mechanics so there is no extra wood work required to fit this product on any standard door.

Equi Door Handle Black Nickel

Black Nickel Door Furniture is an ideal match for any contemporary home. Best of Water in Your Japanese Garden

To Pond or not.

Perhaps one of the most expected features in any Japanese garden is the pond. Do you want water in your Japanese garden? Yes, of course you do!

If there is any way that you have the space and resources , a pond is just about the best thing you can incorporate into your garden. It doesn't have to be big. But it should be suited to your garden. There is just something, well, so relaxing about a water feature.

There are several things to consider before deciding on a pond. Firstly, it is work to put one in. Digging out for a pond of any size is an effort. If you have the facility to bring in a small backhoe to do the job, then that part will be easy. If not, be prepared for some hard work. Do you know what kind of ground you have? Is it decent soil or is it full of rocks? And do you have a place to put all that extra dirt? It always amazes me that when you dig out one cubic yard of soil that it takes up twice as much space when you move it!

What will the pond be used for? Will you try to keep fish in it? Water plants maybe? How will it be lined? Will there need to be some sort of aeration if you have fish? Make sure you have all the bases covered before you start.

Both fish and water lilies need a water depth of about two feet. It could be a little deeper for larger fish. That means you will need to dig the hole about 2 1/2 feet deep to provide adequate water depth.

I still remember my first pond 35 years ago. All dug by hand and lined with concrete. Oh, what a job!

My current pond, being done as we speak, has one of these modern liners. Much easier to put in, and far less costly in the long run. It also has a small header pond with short connecting stream.

It does take considerable care for the installation of a pond liner. The one thing that a liner is susceptible to is being punctured by sharp objects. You need to make sure that the whole area covered by the pond has all the rocks, both large and small meticulously removed. You will benefit from using something between the ground and your liner. There are special sub liners available which you can lay down first, although this will essentially double the cost of your liner.

I am using a combination of sawdust (I do a LOT of woodworking) and carpet for my underliner. Now I know the liner salesman will tell you that this will not work and that it will smell. But a recent visit to a friend on a neighboring island here would tend to say otherwise. Ray has had his pond in place for several years without any ill effects from the carpet.

Aside from the initial work of installation, your pond will require minimal maintenance. No more than any other part of your garden.

New Seven Steps to Choosing the Right Garden Pond Spot

Making the decision to put in a garden pond is the first of many decisions that you will be faced with, when it comes to designing and implementing one of these beauty home accessories.

To begin with almost any yard can house some type of garden pond. There is nothing to say that it has to be big and elaborate in order to fully enjoy all the benefits they have to offer.

There are some preliminary steps to take before actually starting the construction of your pond.

== > Step one
You need to do a full walk through of your backyard and determine all of the viable places from a ground point of view that would work for your pond. If you are going to be doing it yourself remember that you will have some digging to do, and you are not likely to have the right equipment for breaking through ground that is excessively rocky.

== > Step two
You will probably discover at least two or three places that have the appropriate grounds. The next thing you now have to consider is what size of garden pond are you planning on? Then determine which of the locations you have chosen would best meet this need.

== > Step three
Now you have to consider the focal point of your backyard. With your choices of space, is the garden pond going to fit in nicely with the rest of the garden architecture? Even if you do not have your landscaping in place yet, think about the future. Once your garden pond is in you don't even want to have to consider moving it.

== > Step four
Consider the surrounding of the future pond area. If you have large trees you don't want to be running into root problems in a few years, just when your garden pond has become so beautifully established. Then also there is the potential problem of your garden pond becoming laden with fallen leaves and twigs from trees too close to it.

== > Step five
Review the high ground around the pond area. You don't want to have to be dealing with run off from these areas contaminating your pond.

Step six
You want to be sure that there is going to be easy access to your electrical source. You will need this for your pump and filtration system, and perhaps some of the other garden pond accessories that demand power.

== > Step seven
Finally consider how close you want your garden pond to your house. If you have found a viable area that is close to the house, then you want to keep in mind if you do not have a patio now, that you may want to put one in, in the future. Therefore you need to plan ahead for this. The advantage though to having it close to the house is that if you use pond lighting you can enjoy seeing this from inside the house. Also with an open window and provided you are using a fountain or waterfall, you can enjoy the sound of the running water.

These are a few important considerations to give some serious thought to when in the initial planning stages for your garden pond.

Beautiful Designing Your New Home

Buying a new home is one of the most important decisions that you make in your life. You have thought the decision through, selected the neighbourhood, contacted the builder and decided on the floor plan. Most builders now offer flexible menu options which will allow extensive customisation and they will also help you with financing. Buying a new home was never easier and there are many advantages associated with a brand, especially when it comes to customising the design so that you get a unique home made just for you, and not just a cookie-cutter house.

Once you buy a new home, you are faced with endless choices and it is up to you to pick the right one. Every room from the living room to the kitchen offers a wide range of design options and finishing touches; you have options for cabinets, countertops, flooring and everything else. The task of selecting the most suitable ones, though exciting, can also be daunting especially for first time new home buyers.

Design consultants advise that the best way to get started is by equipping yourself with as much information as possible. There are several important guidelines that new homeowners can follow to make the experience of designing their homes a lot more fun and a lot less frustrating.

Start off simple.

Starting off simple can help you organize your thoughts and sort out the various choices in front of you. If you spot pictures that reflect your personal style, tear them off from magazines and collect them in a folder. Establish a colour palette and design style. Decide on whether you want pastel shades or vibrant hues, modern and minimalistic or traditional and timeless; or anything in between. Once you decide on the basics, it will then free your mind to concentrate on details like flooring, countertops and cabinets that match your preference and the mood you want to create in each room.

Make it personal.

One of the questions that trouble new home buyers is how they can make a brand new house feel like their own living space. It is possible and easier than you think; all you need to do is incorporate small, personal touches into each room that turns the empty space into a comfortable place that you call home. If you are keeping some of your old furniture, co-ordinating other accessories in the room to match the furniture in itself can personalise the space and make it look familiar and inviting.

Choose paints that reflect your style.

Painting is one finishing touch that can significantly affect the style and feel of a home. Paints can complement and liven up all the other features in a room. A rich colour on the walls can bring about a warm an comfortable feel. The shades can also be co-ordinated with a favourite piece of furniture.

Consider the future.

It is quite important to try and make choices that will enhance the value of your home in future. If in the future you may consider selling your home, invest in fixtures and design elements that are tasteful and durable. Often, when a house is up for sale, the kitchen is one of the first rooms that prospective buyers look at. It is important to have good quality cabinets here, not only because they can have a tremendous impact on the style of the home, but they are also a difficult item to change in the future.

You need to consider a lot of things when you buy a new home. Discuss all options with your builder and make use of all the services that they have to offer. Several builders offer a great deal of flexibility especially when it comes to the design options. Ensure that you select a floor plan that you are comfortable with, customise it as required and start off simple. You are well on your way to living in the home of your dreams.
