Luxury Supervisors and the Pits - Proper Interviewing Techniques and Strategies

In this supervisors' core training white paper, we deal with a red hot issue often over looked by Human Resources (HR) professionals; the subject of proper interviewing techniques. Given the level of sophistication of today's workers, companies can ill afford not to cover this subject in great detail with those who conduct interviews for them.

Supervisors' Will be Held Liable

Supervisors must attend core training sessions where they learn the questions they can and cannot ask during an interview. And since they are representatives of the company, everything they say can, and probably will be used against them in a court of law. One of the great dangers is- supervisors making promises to prospective employees, out of earshot of the HR department, which the company did not authorize, and therefore cannot keep. For example, the supervisor says "you've already got the job-just go to HR and get a start date."

The Hidden Danger

One of the hidden dangers here is the HR department has not been able to complete a due diligence background check with includes, but is not limited to, a check and verification of Social Security Numbers, a drivers license check, credit check, and criminal history background check- to name a few. There are grave consequences if a company fails to conduct a background check and a criminal act is committed on their premises. Supervisors must be taught to respect the hiring process and not get ahead of HR by making promises the company simply cannot keep.

Train on Techniques

Supervisors can and must be taught how to properly conduct interviews of perspective employees. Today's workers are coming to the interview knowing the questions the supervisor can and cannot ask. For example you cannot ask an interviewee if they are married. This is an illegal question, prohibited by law, which could get your company sued. Another line of questioning prohibited by law is asking an interviewee about a disability. These are but two of a long list of questions you must use caution, and be keenly aware of, when conducting interviews.

Therefore, your supervisors must be trained on how to initiate, conduct, and properly end the interview.

Remain On Point Throughout

Where many supervisors (who are company representatives) drop the ball is when, for example, the interviewee asks to use the restroom facilities and, while walking the person back, the supervisor starts to ask a line of personal questions. Always remember unless and until the person is hired, they are still in the interviewing process. This means never ask questions you cannot ask. The bottom line rule of thumb is; if it is not job related; don't ask the question- period.

Summary

Given the level of sophistication of today's workers, companies can ill afford not to cover the subject of proper interviewing techniques and strategies (in great detail) with supervisors conducting interviews for the company. Your supervisor core training must include the questions supervisors are prohibited from asking. The Human resources department must make this core training a top priority.

Elegant Christmas Tree Decor at Your House

Do you go all out with Christmas tree decor, gifts and activities at Xmas or keep it low key?

We do a tree and a few Christmas tree decors.I have this magnetic Christmas ball ornaments that DS loves this year. Each year we buy each other 2 hallmark ornaments that represent each other, and that is what is on the tree.

We do few gifts. For the past two years DS and I don't buy each other gifts and just spend the money on house projects or vacations.DS doesn't get much. This year I bought him a new wooden train set and some books.

I would say all out.We usually have 3 trees (all fake though) -- one pretty one with white lights and Christmas ball ornaments, one as tacky as DH wants with every colored light blinking like crazy and insane hodgepodge of ornaments topped by a schwa a friend made him in shop class in high school, and one in between with the ornaments that have special meaning. We also do a wreath and garland, and we spend way too much on gifts.

We aren't doing it this year but did it past years.I like to go all-out with Christmas tree decor because I can do it over time when I have time. The day of the party we keep it low-key and easy.Last year we got a honey baked ham, baked some cookies the night before, and got pre-made sides. We get gifts for all our family but we don't go overboard.I'd say withLO keep it easy the day of the partyand do the "all-out" stuff beforehand so you don't have pressure on Christmas Eve/Day.Have a great time!

We have a tree and some Christmas ball ornaments, but that's it. I love Christmas tree decor, but I have no domestic talents and I'm lazy.I'd like to say low key in terms of gifts, too, but alas, I just love buying presents! And now that I have a LO to buy for, well, it's just ridiculous.

All out with presents, low key with decorations. (Until next year)We are in a tiny 2 bedroom apartment, and are hoping to move this weekend, and that doesn't give a lot of time for Christmas tree decor.Next year will be all out decorations and (probably) low key presents.

But thats just my personality. I love to decorate and buy gifts. We have a big family tree and DD has her own mini tree. We also have wreaths, topiaries, and garland up.

Luxury Backyard Wedding Reception Ideas

When throwing a backyard reception, what happens there is limited only by the constraints of the space and the flexibility of your imagination. If you want to have a barbecue, go ahead. If you want a luau, party on. Taking the wedding reception outside of the reception hall affords the bridal couple a lot of freedom if they're ready to accept it. Here are some ideas to make a backyard wedding reception easy and wonderful.

In a traditional reception hall wedding reception, there is a dance floor surrounded by tables. In less-formal receptions, some people choose to forego some of the tables and serve appetizers, but the layout is pretty much the same. In a backyard wedding, you can choose any layout you like. Instead of a circular arrangement of tables and chairs, try using the topography of the space to create conversation areas. They could be standing tables around a swimming pool full of lily pads and sunflowers, comfortable lounge chairs on the deck to watch the sunset from, and other groupings of chairs and tables around the yard. Place a food station at each conversation area, and the guests will naturally flow from one area to another.

Decorations need not be extravagant in a backyard wedding reception. Play up the yard's features with extra flower plantings and possibly the addition of some flowering trees. Small flower arrangements of roses or carnations on the tables and about the reception area will go a long way toward creating beauty and ambiance. The cost of decorations could be cut in half, and perennial flowers and trees will be wonderful reminders of the day for many years to come. If the yard you're using doesn't have many features to play up, create a dance floor and surround it with tables. Erect a tent above the dance floor and swathe the tent poles with tulle. String fairy lights up the poles and around the tulle and place lanterns on the tables. It creates a perfect ambiance for an evening garden wedding.

Theme weddings are fun in backyard gathering spaces. You can create a high tea with finger sandwiches, teapots, petit-fours, and prissy flower and herb cuttings. You could also create a masquerade ball with gilded tablecloths and ornate decorations.

Some nice additions to any garden or backyard wedding reception are arbors and gazebos. You could place a flower-covered arbor at the entrance to the reception, and the newlyweds could walk underneath it to be announced to the guests. A gazebo is a fun place for a conversation station, or could even serve as the space for the couple's first dance.

Use your imagination and let your sense of play run wild for your backyard wedding reception. There is a lot less at stake when the reception is in your own backyard. Let this be your day and dress it up with dreams. Plant a flowering tree and decorate it with a commemorative plaque. With a little luck you'll dance in that gazebo on your fiftieth anniversary.

Lovely Decorating Ideas for Home Office | Ideas for Home Office

Begin by planning the basic structure of the house. With proper planning, your gingerbread house can turn out to be a tempting treat! Once the basic concepts of the house have been decided, you need to cut the structure of the house as per the measurements from a poster board or cardboard. Your main concern should be whether the house will stand on its own once the poster board pieces are placed together. Choose any shape for the house, but if you are new to this, it is better you stick to a normal structure. Always remember the dimensions of the house should be made bearing in mind the dimensions of a baking tray.
Use plywood for the base and cover with foil. You can even place a sheet of gingerbread on this base. The dough that is used for the walls of the house need not be more than 3/8 inch in thickness. The walls of the house that bear the maximum weight can have thicker dough. Next, you also need to plan for the icing that can be used on the walls of the gingerbread house. Apply a thin coat over the sides of the house and let it dry. The walls need to be assembled together with the icing glue. Icing not only helps as a decorative element, it even holds all the pieces of the gingerbread house together. You can even bake separate gingerbread pieces for the house with the help of some dough. This will enhance the look of the entire house. You can also unleash your creativity for the decoration element of the gingerbread house. If you do not have time for baking, you can use pretzels or gumdrops to create the fence of the house. Candies can be used to create a yummy window frame. Tiny cookies can be glued to the side. A generous helping of frosting can also be used to create the effect of snow on the house! The kind of options you use depend largely upon the creativity.

As mentioned earlier, the icing is the most important thing that binds the whole house together and keeps it upright. You can make a combination of 2 large egg whites with a 2 2/3 cup of powdered sugar. Blend these together. However, if you are planning to consume the house entirely, the egg powder can be kept in the microwave for a few seconds. Once done, you need to use an electric mixer to beat the mixture on high speed till it turns stiff.

Beautiful Design Your Backyard Around a Fire Pit

Family and friends will gravitate to your backyard when you add a fire pit to your patio. The friendly warmth and glow of a burning fire has been bringing people together for centuries and continues to do so today. You can purchase a fire pit that will go with any backyard design, from basic to sophisticated, and in styles that range from a classic round bowl to tables with fire pits in the center. When it comes to fire pits, there are plenty of choices so which is best for you?

Your first decision will be to have a permanent or portable model. A permanent fire pit is built in and usually burns natural gas from your home. This type often looks more like a fireplace but it makes a statement about your desire to be outdoors in the evening. Portable fire pits dominate the market place, and for the obvious reason - they can be moved. A portable unit allows you to move the fire pit around your backyard or even take it with you to the beach, camping or tailgating. The portable models come in many shapes, materials and sizes so you are sure to find one that will fit the design of your backyard area.

Your second decision will center around the fuel you will use in your fire pit. Wood burning models, continue to be the most popular, but many communities have now placed bans on wood burning so check your local ordinances first. Wood burning fire pits also require more open space around them, so make sure you have an area that is large enough. But for a true campfire experience there is nothing like the smell of burning logs and the crackle of a wood fire. Propane fire pits are becoming more popular every day. They offer easy on and off, leave no ashes to clean up, can be used in more locations and are environmentally friendly. A propane fire pit can easily be designed into a table which makes them even more functional.

Fire pits are a great addition to any backyard and will instantly be the centerpiece of you evening gatherings. Look for a good quality fire pit that is made to last and begin creating new memories for years to come.

Luxury Marginal Plants for the Garden Pond. Part 2

Glyceria (Water Grass)
Yet another grassy Marginal, and one with a bad reputation for being invasiveand for swamping the more delicate plants. Glyceriaspectabilis variegatus (Manna Grass) is a striking plant growing 2 - 3 feet high, with Green leaves which are boldly variegated with Yellow and Whote stripes. The young spring foliage has a distinctly rosy hue. The wide-spreading grass flower heads are of little ornamental value and should be removed. The planting depth is 0 - 6 inches and it can be grown in the bog garden. Unless Glyceria is used to stabilise the bank of a lake or large pond, it should always be grown in a container to restrict its sideways spread. It is an easy plant to grow even in partial shade and it quickly becomes established and stars to spread, this is the main problem with this particular plant.

Houttuynia (Houltuynia)

An easy to grow carpeter for planting between taller specimens, but you must grow it in a container to keep its invasive nature in check. The stems are Red and the Bluish-Green leaves are distinctly heart shaped. It grows 6 inches to 1 foot high and in early summer the cone shaped flowers appear, each one surrounded by 4 white bracts. Houttuynia cordata bears single flowers - the double flowered variety 'Plena' is preferred. Variegata has the most colourful foliage which is Reddish-Green splashed with Yellow and cream but with only a few flowers. The recommended planting depth is 2 - 4 inches. It will grow quite happily at the surface or even in damp soil, but the roots can be damaged in winter if they are exposed to frost or ice.

Caltha (Marsh Marigold)

The Marsh Marigolds are perhaps the most popular of all Marginal plants, and quite rightly so. The size of the smaller types makes them suitable for small ponds and they are reliable under a wide range of conditions. The recommended planting depth is no roblem, they need very little water above the crowns and will grow quite happily in the bog garden. Their greatest advantage is the time of flowering, the Buttercup-like flowers appear above the round or heart shaped leaves in spring. These April blooms herald in the start of the floral year. Grow Marsh Marigolds in groups in full sun or partial shade. The basic and most popular species is the Kingcup Caltha palustris. In April the bright Yellow waxy flowers are borne on branching stems above the dark Green leaves. Height 1 foot to 18 inches, planting depth is 0 - 2 inches. The best Caltha of all is C.palustris Plena - double Yellow flowers which look like small pompon Crysanthemumsappear in April. The leafy mounds are small (6 inches th 1 foot) and are often completely covered by the blooms. The White variety alba produces its blooms in May - height 6 - 9 inches, planting depth 1 inch. It is often disappointing as a Marginal s o it is best to grow it as a bog plant.C.leptosepala is a more attractive White floweredCaltha, but it is not easy to find. C polypetala is the giant growing 2 - 3 feet in height, planting depth 2 - 5 inches. The leaves and the Yellow blooms are large. Not one for a small pond.

Lovely Prime 5 Bonsai Gardening Secrets

Bonsai is a method of rising timber that originated in Asia and is incessantly related to the bonsai tree. Bonsai is the art of training a pot-certain tree to develop in a definite way. The tree is dwarfed by trimming its roots and branches. The branches are then wired to the trunk in order to succeed in a managed, mature-tree form while balancing the highest of the plant with the basis system. each part of the tree must be proportional, from its trunk to its leaves.

Bonsai rising can also be practiced on many sizes and species of timber. A miniature bonsai grows 2 inches tall, while a standard bonsai grows to be 2 feet tall. rising a bonsai tree is an artwork form and a take a look at of patience. it doesn't matter what type of bonsai an enthusiast chooses to develop, there are specific things they will have to recognize with a purpose to get the very best that you can imagine outcomes. listed below are the top five bonsai gardening secrets and techniques:

1. Watering

never over water a bonsai tree because this may result in root rot. under watering can be dangerous. Water should be Ph tested before use and adjusted to be extra acidic prior to watering. it is important to water a bonsai tree regularly.

Bonsai trees will also be grown in a shallow dish of water, as this will present the tree with the humidity it desires. alternatively, don't let it sit down directly within the water. The roots will become oversaturated. instead, take a seat the tree on rocks in the water.

2. Soil

Use different bonsai soil, which dries out faster than standard potting soil. poor soil leads to an unhealthy tree. good bonsai soil retains water well, lets in excess water to empty in an instant, and has excellent aeration.

three. Fertilization

each spring and fall, feed the bonsai tree nitrogen, phosphoric acid, and potash. Indoor bonsai timber must even be fed liquid plant food every other week. Bonsai bushes do not want to be fertilized within the wintry weather.

4. Pruning

Branches need to be pruned in the spring. most of the new increase must be clipped off and desirable branches wired to the trunk in order to keep an eye on the course wherein the tree grows. Some bonsai bushes want to be defoliated in the summer to help the tree grow new branches and leaves.

5. sunlight

Bonsai trees require a number of hours of sunlight day by day. however, they must not be positioned in direct daylight as a result of they may be able to overheat and dry out.

Best of Porch Motorhome Awnings

Porch motorhome awnings offer an alternative to the more bulky full size awnings, and give you more protection than the simple retractable kinds. As such they are a compromise between the two, both in terms of cost and in ease of use. A porch awning is mainly designed to give you a bit more living space, or storage space, depending on your needs.

They are designed to fit all types of motorhome, and are attached with support arms and ground fittings. Many people use them to put their dirty clothing and shoes in, which stops any unpleasant smells entering your home. There is also the option to extend and customise the size of the porch by adding side panels and windows. Windows will offer more ventilation and allow a cool breeze to flow throughout the entire motorhome on very hot days, whilst keeping the actual awning space cooler as well.

Full size annexes can also be added with the necessary attachments and poles. This may be an option if you have bought a porch size awning but want to upgrade without having to pay for the more expensive annex sizes. On colder days there is the option of buying a heater to keep things warmer. A ground sheet is a useful addition, and most of these are made from anti rot materials and are easily cleaned off after use.

Storage is a consideration when you are travelling, and the smaller size of porch awnings gives them an advantage over larger, more bulky designs. If you have a retractable design then you can always attach the porch to that for extra support. You can also buy stand alone, or driveaway porches, and these give you more freedom whilst on your travels because you can just drive away and leave them standing.

Make sure you take your measurements down first. Also ensure that the porch will not encroach over any windows or side doors of your motorhome apart from the one's you actually want to cover. This is a common mistake made by many owners who find the size is too big to fit just right. Read up on the dimensions first, this is the golden rule. Check the height as well, so that it matches the height of your motorhome.

Porch awnings offer a perfect compromise between the larger annexes and the retractable models. The prices reflect this as well. A well looked after porch will offer comfort and protection for years to come, and make a useful addition to any motorhome.

Elegant Make Your Garden More Beautiful with a Small Koi Pond!

You have your dream home along with a wonderful garden that enhances it's beauty. But... you want to make your garden even more beautiful. How about the idea of enhancing it with a small Koi pond?

Koi fish are an ornamental variety of domesticated Common Carp or Cyprinus Carpio. Also known as Japanese Carp, these pretty fish are known as symbols of love and friendship. You can find Koi in a multitude of colors, including white, black, red, yellow, blue, cream and silver.

It is an old Japanese tradition to tame these fish in small ponds. Japanese homes have always been beautiful and wonderfully embellished. In the present the Japanese people widely use a small Koi pond in their home garden to decorate it and maintain a positive energy. Koi are traditionally known in Japan as a 'good luck charm.'

In addition to increasing the serenity of your garden, these small ponds add to your reasons for spending time relaxing in and enjoying it.

Another bonus of a small Koi pond is that building one is not an overly tough task. You can build it in hours without spending huge amounts of money. To make your job even easier follow these simple guidelines...

First, decide on location, where to place the pond in your garden? Selection of a shady area is always a wise decision as shade will help moderate water temperatures and provide some cover for your Koi. You must also select a place where you can easily keep your pond clean and free from garden wastes. You don't want chemicals or fertilizers to run into the pond since this would be likely to kill your fish.

You should also make sure that the place you have chosen for your pond has easy access to electricity. Electricity will be required for running your filter and water pump.

Size is another important factor, particularly if you are the one who is going to dig the hole. The size of a pond also varies in accordance with the number of fish, and depending on where you live you will also need to make sure your pond is of adequate depth. If winters get below freezing you will need to make sure that a good portion of your pond is a minimum of three feet deep.

To build a small Koi pond in your garden you will need a liner or preformed tub. After digging the hole, you can put the tub in and fill the dirt around it. This is the easiest way to prepare a Koi pond. But, if  you are using a liner  you must be cautious. Some rubber liners can be dangerous for fish.

The last, but most important component of your pond is your fish! You can have just Koi fish, or even a mix of gold fish and Koi. It is very enjoyable deciding on which colors and types to select and in just a short time they will become beloved pets!

Now your striking Koi pond is ready. If you would like to make it even more beautiful you could place a small wooden bridge over it. This will offer an arresting look to your garden. You will surely be enchanted by the beauty and tranquility of your small Koi pond!

Best of Clear the Patio Deck!

A deck can be a warm, inviting place for friends and family. Or it can be a complete eyesore if it's not maintained properly. Before you decide that your deck is useless and unattractive, consider some of these important tips and techniques to refurbishing your deck and revitalizing its life.

Decks are an extension of your home and they offer a comfortable place to enjoy the beauty of the outdoors while entertaining, grilling, or just relaxing. Unfortunately, most all decks are exposed to many kinds of weather including rain, snow, hot sun, and humidity. If not cared for properly, they are prone to become old, dingy, dirty, and weathered - rendering them useless to those who want to enjoy a beautiful outdoor space.

The good thing for homeowners to recognize is that decks usually have more visual problems than structural. This means that some tender loving care and a little elbow grease can make them more beautiful and useful. When the structure is good, the enhanced beauty of wood and furniture make your deck the perfect entertainment spot.

There are four steps to maintaining an inviting appearance to your deck:

1. Clean the deck.

2. Evaluate any discoloration of boards or possible decay that needs repair.

3. Repair any areas needing work.

4. Protect your decking with a durable finishing product (stain or paint).

Cleaning. It's important to thoroughly clean your deck, getting between the boards and cracks to avoid rot, mildew, and debris. You can purchase or rent power washers for this purpose to quickly clean the surface. You may still need to use a knife or slender object to go between the boards. A high powered water hose and nozzle will also help do the trick but use it carefully since the pressure can damage the wood surfaces.

You can purchase commercial powders or liquid concentrates that include cleaners for your deck and help rid the surface of mold and mildew. These culprits can damage the wood surfaces and they are a health hazard if not removed. Always test any product you plan to use before using it on the entire deck. It could discolor or darken wood. For your own safety, be sure to wear rubber gloves and goggles when applying cleaner and power-washing a deck.

After cleaning, inspect the deck to see if there are damaged boards, cracks, or loose nails that need repair. Take care of any of these problems before you proceed to your next step. Make sure steps are secure and handrails are steady.

Once your deck is clean, you can apply a good quality finish to protect it. But be sure to wait for 2-3 days after washing before applying the finish. It's important to allow the wood to completely dry out before applying a sealant of any kind.

Applying finish. If your deck is painted, you obviously need to repaint periodically. If your deck is a natural or colored stained finish, then you can use a clear or stained finish to refresh the wood. If you are using a finish, be sure it is water repellent, offers UV protection for the wood, and if you have problems with mildew, make sure it includes a mildewcide which is found in most wood preservatives.

If this is your first project to improve your deck, you can always check with the experts at your local home and garden store for more tips. Taking care of your deck is not something you do once in a lifetime. It is a process that should be undertaken at least once a year to ensure the beauty and safety of this outdoor structure. You will find that a well-preserved and beautifully maintained deck provides an opportunity for much outdoor fun and activity. It also contributes to the overall beauty and value of your home.

Unique Backyard Owl, a Unique Visitor

In August this last summer in the late afternoon I took a soda and my binoculars and went to the back porch to relax and watch some wild life. There is always lots of activity on my acre of land. This time there were about a dozen pair of doves grazing on the south side of the backyard beyond the trees. There was plenty of seed on the ground. We had lots of rain in July and the weeds were everywhere. The doves, loving it, were eating seeds up as fast as they could. They were so intent on feeding that they did not seem to notice me or anything else around them.

It was then that I noticed two Blue Jays diving and flying around in quite a dither. Something had them quite agitated. One Jay would fly around and then dart in and out toward one of our pine trees. All the time he was squawking at the top of his lungs. I had never heard such a racket from them before. Obviously he did not like what he saw in his pine tree.

Focusing on the pine tree, I looked carefully for the irritant. About two thirds the way up the trunk was a beautiful Boreal Owl. He was perched on a limb with his back resting against the trunk of the tree. His demeanor was calm like he had not a care in the world but he kept looking back and forth around the yard. Im sure he saw the Jays, but seemed to not be bothered. However the Jays were quite upset at his being there in there tree.

I watched for awhile. It was very entertaining and lots of fun. Those birds were quite a show. I could not have planned it if I had tried. They seemed to never tire or flitting around trying to get the Owl to go away. I dont think the Jays succeeded. They probably gave up in frustration.

When I retired for the night the show was still going on. One Jay would dive toward the pine tree and then the other Jay would take his turn. Since I needed to get up early the next day, I finally left the show and went to bed. Rising early the next morning, I got up and went out to see how things were in the back yard. The Owl had gone, probably bored with the whole thing. The Jays were happily content in their pine tree. All the world was right again in my back yard.

Inspirational Chicken Coop Maintenance

Now that you've built your very own chicken coop, you should also understand how to take the best care of it. Since you've worked so hard to construct your chicken, it would be a shame to see it disintegrate because of lack of maintenance. Fortunately, just like maintaining a car, repairing and caring for a chicken coop isn't that difficult if you stay on top of things on a regular basis. Here are some tips for keeping your chicken house in top condition through the years.

Pay Attention To The Door

Since the coop is one item that will be constantly moving, it is extremely important that you watch it regularly. If anything is wrong with it, such as a loose latch, be sure fix it immediately. Not being careful about the door is one way to guarantee that your chickens will "fly the coop". If you continually have issues with your coop door, you may consider replacing it altogether, or at least installing a more secure latch. If you do install a latch, make sure it is bolted to the door properly and securely. Everyone has their own preference on how they like to open the door, so do what works best for you.

 Regularly Check Your Fence

Another part of the chicken coop that needs adequate maintenance is the fence structure. The fence should be checked regularly, at least once a month. Not maintaining the fence properly could lead to predators coming in and harming your chickens and/or eggs. Predators can also impact the sturdiness of your fence. This may require installing or rebuilding your fence.   After some time, some fences may fall down in some places. Walk around your fence and test different areas to see how well your fence is holding up.

Check The Feeders

The feeders in your chicken coop also deserve your attention. Feeders are used on a daily basis, and their upkeep is vital to the health of your coop. If your feeders appear too beat up, it could be a sign that you need to install another one. A beat up feeder could also be a sign that your chickens may be constantly fighting over food and picking at the feeder.   You also should notice now your chickens are responding to the feed height. Some chickens prefer a feeder slightly lower, and some chickens prefer a feeder slightly higher. Watch your chickens, and make adjustments as necessary. This is important to the overall comfort and well-being of your chickens. Adjustments are usually only a matter of one to two inches, but can make a huge difference in how easily they access their food from the feeder.

New the Many Kinds of Patio Heaters

If you are shopping for a patio heater, there are several different options from which you can choose. Whatever heater you choose will provide warmth for your patio, which will let your family to use your porch for longer than you would be able.

The first option from which you can choose is the tabletop heater. This option is compact, portable, and typically more inexpensive. They are the perfect choice if you only need to heat a small circle of about six to seven feet.

Several tabletop heaters are created with bases, which have small fuel tanks, which hold the propane that is used to produce heat.

Another sort of patio heater is a transportable patio heater. These full-sized heaters do not include a fixed fuel line. They are portable to any place that you require heat, and can create a twenty-foot circle of heat.

One of the greatest traits of these heaters is their flexibility. They can be relocated to wherever you want heat at the time. These heaters are usually mounted on wheels, so you can roll it wherever you want it to go.

The bulk of these heaters are made with a section explicitly for their propane fuel tank. They can provide up to 40,000 BTU's of radiant heat, and they ordinarily feature adjustable thermostats that permit you to set the heat to whatever temperature is most comfortable for you.

If you are attempting to keep your terrace free of disorder, you should look into strip heaters, which mount on the ceiling or the wall. These heaters are meant to be permanently installed. You should especially consider this option if you have children or pets which could accidentally knock them over and injure themselves or damage your home.

If these options are not pleasing to you, you can always purchase an in-ground patio heater. This heater alternative is a permanent installation that creates power and stability. They characteristically have a much wider heating radius than the less expensive, mobile models, and tap into a pre-existing natural gas supply.

The majority of patio heaters use liquid propane as a fuel, but some use an established the natural gas source. Many options will come in two different models, and allow you to choose your fuel preference. Remember that models that use propane tanks require you to purchase the fuel separately.

There are many different options which you need to consider when you are looking to purchase a patio heater. It is important to think about what your family's needs are and how much your budget is. You also need to determine what kind of fuel you want to use, and if there is an established natural gas source available.

A patio heater is an excellent way to bring your family together and extend the amount of time that you can use your patio. By installing one of these heater options, you will provide warmth on your porch throughout the autumn, and make it usable when it would be too cold outside to sit on your patio without your heater.

Inspirational Design Your Own Home

Where you live is probably one of the most important decisions you'll ever make during your lifetime. Some people move from place to place, while others wind up living in the same area for 30 years. For many, the ultimate goal is to design a house that encompasses every feature they ever imagined.

To design your own home, the first thing you must do is decide the square footage. That may be limited by your budget as well as the size of the property where the home will be built. Once you have decided on how big your home will be, you need to organise your thoughts and create an outline of your project.

You don't have to be a professional designer or even know how to drawer particularly well. Your job is to visualize the layout of the home first and worry about the details later. When you design your own home, it may take a week or even longer to come up with the final concept. Be prepared to draw and redraw your floor plan as you hone in on exactly how you want your house to look.

Using graph paper is a good way to draw your design to scale. For example, each box can represent a foot. If you prefer, you can purchase software that will make it easy to experiment with different layouts. When you design a house you must think about everything as a whole. While you may not know much about plumbing or electricity, you should know that you have to plan for each system.

For instance, try to keep plumbing along one or maybe two walls. An upstairs and a downstairs bathroom should be located one above the other. You should decide how many electrical outlets you want and where you want to place them. All of the technical details will have to be drawn by an architect. He will be able to create blueprints based on your design that meet all building codes.

Everything from the size of the rooms to how many windows you want can be sketched out. You can decide the best way to position your house on the property. Remember the sun rises in the east and sets in the west and the north side is usually the shadiest side of the house.

Once your design is complete, hire a qualified architect, let him draw out blue prints and if you're satisfied with his work, then, it is time to hire a building contractor to build your dream home.

Elegant Designing a Fashionable New Home

Purchasing a new home is no longer about finding one that "works" or having a cookie cutter development-type estate built and designed. Those that are interested in having a fashionable and stylish abode have plenty of options when it comes to remodeling or designing an interior decorating scheme.

The options are almost endless when it comes to the type of things one can do to make their residence look unique and fit their style. All one needs is some creativity and a way to make their ideas come to fruition.

New materials and technologies are becoming more and more available, as far as home design goes. However, if you are on a limited budget or do not have access to the help and resources it would take to make a groundbreaking change on your place, there are still things that can be done to make it feel more original and stylish.

When it comes to altering the interior of your residence, it is necessary to first start with an idea. It is really possible to find inspiration anywhere, whether it is in nature, in others' homes, on the television, or in a magazine.

You can even draw colors, patterns, and textures from fabrics that you see and find appealing and then translate them into something within your house. When you are purchasing a new place, make sure that it has the specifications that you wish.

You may not always find that you love everything about the floor plan, but as long as it has the elements that are most important to you, it will be easy to decorate and find places to put things. If you are building a completely new residence through a building company, understand the specifications of their plans and choose what is most important to you.

If you choose to go the custom route and find your own contractors and designers, make sure that they truly understand what it is that you want for your estate. Some of the most popular trends when it comes to home design are ones that are more environmentally friendly.

Many people have started to use energy efficient windows and blinds as part of their scheme. Not only are these better for the environment because they allow you to use less power, they also lessen the amount of money that you spend each month and can prevent unnecessary losses from your budget.

There has also been an increase in the use of biodegradable materials, as well as fair trade and organic cloths and furnishings. Even though the objects are made out of more earthy materials, they still offer beauty and a rustic touch to many homes.

You can also make your home more environmentally friendly by recycling furnishings and other materials. Take things that you may have used in another home and give them a makeover with new paint or adding different objects like lace.

Another trend in decorating is actually done by using the least amount of things to fill a room, and is called minimalism. It is a way to make the indoors look clean, open, and clutter free.

Minimalistic rooms are usually filled with neutral and light colors and items that are mostly functional. Those that purchase a residence that is not new and may have been built decades before can still rework the design so that the place has a modern twist.

If there are aspects of it that must be fixed, enlist the help of a handy man or someone with remodeling experience. This is also a great way to reuse and recycle materials, because you can make an older residence look new.

Homes that have impressive architecture or exteriors are the best ones to use for this type of project, because you can retain the beautiful aspects while adjusting others. Other ideas for home renovation and design are storm resistant, health focused, and storage concentrated places.

You may find it beneficial to hire a designer to rework the inside of your place and make it yours. Doing so can help make you feel more cozy and homey; it is also a great idea for those that love to entertain and have others over.

Whether you purchase a new place or find one that has been lived in before, there are definitely ways for you to put your own vibe and style into it. Research new ways or get inspiration from other mediums, and you will have a place that is solely yours!and storage concentrated places.

Elegant Contemporary Art in Home Interior Design

Home interior design is a subject near and dear to many people's hearts, just as their homes are. These beautiful homes are often filled with paintings, ceramics, bronze sculptures, blown glass and many other forms of contemporary art. These sorts of items sometimes act as an inspiration for the way the whole house is decorated. Sometimes they just act as a point of interest.

Modern home interior designs tend to be perfect for displaying many types of art because they are often minimal and open. This leaves lots of room for displaying nice pieces of all sorts of art. When it comes to what to actually put in these spaces, there are a few important factors to consider. One of the most important of these is to really pay attention to the types of pieces that move you emotionally. You are the one that has to look at whatever you put in that special place, so be certain you love it. If you are working with rooms that already have much of the decor in place, you will want to find art pieces that are complimentary to whatever colors, shapes, or themes are already in play. Because contemporary art is so varied, you have lots of options, and that's a good thing.

Many people wonder how best to display art in their home interior design plan. Thankfully, it really isn't that complicated. Let's say you find just the perfect abstract painting. You bring it home with the intention of placing it on a wall. You find just the right spot and hang it on the wall. Your significant other comes home later that day, sees the new art piece hanging there and says, "why did you hang that there?" Great, you thought you had situated it just right only to find out that, while it looked perfectly placed to you, it was entirely inappropriate to someone else. Such is life. You agree to move it and situate it elsewhere. After a few days of leaving it propped up on the mantle you find that it is just perfect there. All are happy and disaster averted.

Objects like bronze figures, vases, turned wood objects, sculptures or other types of contemporary art are equally easy to display. For most pieces, these can be successfully displayed on a shelf or table, up on a mantle or ledge, or even on the floor. Size will often determine the best way to go for much of your home interior design decisions. If, for example, you acquire a large animal sculpture, it may be impractical to place it on a lifted surface. It will have much more dramatic effect left on the floor. I have a friend who has a large tiger sculpture that greets you when you first enter his home. This always gets my attention and makes me feel like I better keep an eye on it. Wouldn't want to get bit when I least expect it!

Contemporary homes deserve to be adorned with contemporary art. Thankfully, objects for home interior design can be found in wonderful galleries across the country. Go in, meet the curator, look around, and discover what wonderful treasures might be added to your home interior design.

Unique Things to Look for when Purchasing a Porch Swing

Porch swings are very iconic and can be a great starting point for any outdoor furniture collection. They can be the starting point for any theme you wish to have on your deck or outdoor living area and can be accessorized with colored or patterned cushions or blankets. Depending on your size, style, and material preference, there are a few ways things to look for before purchasing a porch swing.

The size of your desired porch swing is the first thing to look for before making a purchase. You will need an area large enough for the length of the seat and height of the chair when hung a few feet off the ground. The range of motion of the swing is also important because you will need to avoid areas where the swing will hit walls or other areas to avoid damaging the swing or injuring individuals.

Size is also a consideration because you will need to accommodate everyone who will be using it. Porch swings can come in sizes from individual seats to loveseats to even couch length to hold up to four people. The size goes directly hand-in-hand with the amount of weight your porch swing will be able to hold because you will need to not only pick a porch swing made of a durable material but you will also need to make sure it is hung from an area which will support it. Sturdy areas to hang a porch swing include the roof of a deck or porch, a sturdy tree branch, or an a-frame base.

The accessories included with the porch swing are also important to consider because these can contribute to the success of your porch swing. A-frame bases are an important accessory to consider because they may not come with the swing of your choice but may be sold separately. A-frames are sturdy surfaces which will hold your chains and swing and will also be beneficial because they allow you to move the porch swing to different areas of the deck or yard. Taking specific measurements of the a-frame is important because they must fit the swing perfectly and they are wide and will require a large area for placement.

Cushions are also accessories to keep in mind when purchasing a porch swing because many porch swings are not very comfortable without them. Swings which are made of wood, wicker, or wrought iron will most likely need cushions or padding for added comfort and wicker and wrought iron are especially uncomfortable when you sit directly on them. Cushions are also a great way to match your porch swing with the rest of your outdoor furniture because there are many colors and styles of cushions available.

Before purchasing any accessories or add-ons for your swing, you will need to be sure these items will last outdoors. A-frames should be protected accordingly depending on what material they are made of to be sure they do not crack or rot due to exposure to rain or sunlight. Cushions should be purchased to resist mold and mildew and also be fade-resistant under the sun.

Chains and hooks are especially important for your porch swing because they should be sturdy and resist rust as damage will cause your chains to become weak. For the safety of your family, chains should be checked each season. Covering chains with rubber tubing is an effective way to keep them safe and long-lasting.

Inspirational the Benefits of Fall Gardening

Fall gardening is not exactly a popular choice among gardeners thanks to the fear of early winter frost. But the truth is that fall gardening is capable of producing a good crop of vegetables and will let you have crops long after the summer-spring crops have been harvested. It has also been observed that the fall vegetables taste milder and sweeter than the summer vegetables. You get to eat the same vegetables but a tastier version.

You need consider only two things when deciding what to grow. First how much space you have and secondly what you would like to eat. Summer crops like sweet potatoes, pepper, okra and tomatoes are good choices as they will produce till the frost hits. For the southern states this could mean till much later in the year. Some summer plants like cucumber, snap beans and summer squash stop producing as the summer ends. If these are planted during the mid-summers you can hope to harvest them till the first frost. Fragile and weak vegetables may grow even when there is light frost, but the tougher lot can flourish till the temperature reaches 20 degrees. Don't panic if the tops of your tuber plants happen to freeze, you can still salvage the edibles with the use of plenty of mulch.

When choosing your fall crop, be sure to choose vegetables with really short seasons, so that you can have grown plants ready for harvest before the frost strikes. You need to look for seed packets marked "early season" or you could go for seeds which lay claim to early maturity. It would be wise to buy the seeds for your fall gardening in the spring or latest early summer. Most stocks dry up by late summer. All you need to do is store them in a dry cool place, and they will be ready when you need them for your fall gardening.

Consult the farmer's Almanac to find out when the first frost is expected. The dates they give are rarely off the mark. You can use this information in order to calculate exactly when you need to plant for fall gardening. Of course you need to know precisely how long your plants are going to take to mature too.

You first need to clear your garden of nay leftovers from the previous crops and also get rid of weeds. You don't want any infections or diseases for your fall crop. You could use a few inches of mulch or compost to revitalize your soil. It may not be necessary though if you have used a lot of fertilizer for your spring-summer crops. Wet your top layer of soil after tilling it and let it set for a day or so. Soon you can start planting.

Moat gardeners avoid fall gardening as they don't want to fuss with frost. If you choose to plant tough and sturdy vegetables you van hope to harvest them till after a few frosts and also get better tasting produce in the bargain. Fall gardening lets you enjoy the vegetable garden a little longer.

Best of Ideas About a Home School Diploma

Earning a home school diploma means you have completed your primary and secondary education at home, in contrast to the traditional classroom settings. There are many reasons why parents prefer to have their children educated at home.

It could be that the child has physical disability that would make the travel to school and home an unnecessary inconvenience. Maybe your child has advanced level of learning skills that you think it would be best if he or she is given special attention and the right lessons.

Or, it could also be that your house is situated far and the closest school is a travel by 3 hours or more, and you think it is practical to have the home schooling. The reasons for choosing home education seem to go on forever. This is not surprising especially that the safety of the school environment has been questioned lately.

The classrooms are regarded to be the second home of children and students, and thus, schools are expected to provide safe venue as they learn. However, in recent years, the school campuses have been a favorite target of the criminals, insane, and psychologically disturbed individuals who find gratification from slaying students, teachers and anyone who comes their way. At times, the perpetrators themselves are current or former students or professors of the school.

If such is the case, how can you have a peace of mind knowing that at any time, someone from the school campus will have his mind distorted, and you have your son or daughter eagerly learning there? Even if the campuses are fool-proof and criminal-proof, the environment may become a breeding ground for violence.

Some students are natural born violent that they fear nobody in school. Not even their teachers. They bully around anybody or tease until they provoke anger. Soon fists are seen flying. Another reason why parents find it more beneficial to have home school diploma is the specific needs of their children as not all children have similar skills in learning. Some are advanced, while others need more attention. Still a few students have strengths in some subjects, and are weak in other areas. What better approach to use to address such varying needs than what home schooling does?

With home education, you can choose the lessons that your child will learn. For example, if he is good at Mathematics, you can feed him lessons that will not take so much of his time. And if he is weak in History, then you can allot longer periods for that subject, and you may adjust the type of lessons he will have. This way, you can guarantee that you child will have a balanced learning.

The bonding between a child and the parents will become strengthened as parents can be around their children if they have their web-based classes. Hence, you can guarantee that your child will get the attention and lessons he deserves without intimidation from other students.

Home school diploma has been given credits by the government body responsible for providing and regulating the education in the United States. Celebrities and even ordinary parents can avail of the benefits of home education.

Luxury Quick Guide to Water Gardening

If you are thinking of enhancing your landscape options and increasing the esthetic appeal of your home, you must consider a water feature. For the home gardener, water features can be both exciting and rewarding. What other aspect of you landscape can add the relaxing sound of moving water, allow you to use new and different plants, and attract animals and birds into your yard?

There are four different types of water features you may want to consider when thinking about your water garden. These are ponds, streams, waterfalls and fountains.

Ponds can be divided into two different types: formal and informal.

Formal ponds, often called pools, are characterized by neat regular borders. They may have an edge that is circular or straight in nature. Pools can be raised or at ground level and have a formal man made look.
An informal pond looks as if it was designed by nature. The only limit for designing and informal pond is your imagination. Your pond may look like a secluded mountain treasure, a secret desert oasis, a charming oriental garden, or what ever else comes to mind: it' is your choice. The edges of an informal pond are at ground level and are camouflaged with rocks, stones and plants. Your pond can be small or large; whatever your space limitations are. When considering an informal pond you may want the flexibility and convenience of a pond kit. Pond kits contain everything you need but the stone, water, and plants, and are just the ticket for the beginner.

Streams are generally used as a connecting waterway between two features; usually a waterfall and pond. Streams may be either fast moving or slow, and the natural features of your yard will in part determine your stream choice. A stream will require a pump to move the water from the pond back up to the waterfall. Erosion, seasonal runoff, and silt deposits are a few of the special considerations one should plan for when thinking of a stream.

Waterfalls may either be a water feature that empties into a pond or stream or a disappearing waterfall. A disappearing waterfall is just that: the water disappears into the ground, is then collected in an underground basin, and is pumped back up to the waterfall. Usually the water basin is covered with rock or stone for a natural transition. The advantages of a disappearing waterfall is that it does not have to run constantly, there is no visible, standing water and it does not require a lot of space. When building any waterfall your top priority is making sure that it is waterproof. A disappearing waterfall kit will help insure your success and make your project the perfect addition to your landscape.

Fountains can come in just about any size, shape, or form. They may be free standing or be included within a pond. If you are considering a pond with fish or plants, a fountain is an excellent way of aerating the water by providing a continuous source of oxygen. Fountains may act as a sound barrier, and as with any water feature the sound and movement of the water will enable you to relax and enjoy a bit of nature.

Make your yard a home within your home by adding a water feature that brings you years of pleasure and enjoyment.

New Guidelines for Designing an Insulated Dog House

Many dog owners will most likely keep their dogs indoors during the night, and some for a part of the afternoon as well. However, there will be times where your dog will want to sleep out of doors. If you have a secure backyard, then your dog running around should not be an issue. Kepping your pet in your garage isnt the best space for your pet to be, since there are many hazards that can be found by your pet, such as poisonous substances and antifreeze, or you can have tools that might be knocked over quite easily. Building a good sized dog house that is insulated needs to be the safest spot for your dog to be, except for your house, of course.

You will need to measure your dog upright. The ceiling should be no greater than a couple inches taller than your dog. If you own a puppy, then you should allow room for growth. The house length ought to be at least twice as long, & three fifths as wide in measurement to your puppy. If you plan on owning more dogs then youll have to make allowances for that as well.

Draw a floor plan. The square must be divided into 4 parts, for your dog house. Number each of the sections, from each point. Each of these intersections should have an upright post. The dog house will need to have an outer wall, as well as an interior wall. The entrance needs to be in section four, next to section 3. This interior wall will be the protection against the cold air. If you have seen an igloo, then you have the right idea. These walls will have 3 sections: theyll have 2 sides of plywood in addition to Styrofoam in between them.

Next youll have to build the floor frame. Make a square from the wood. Cut a shorter piece of wood to go through the middle. Nail the frame. Then you will have to cut 3/4 of a sheet of your external plywood for the overall floor.

Youll then have to measure the roof. The highest part must be at the front, and the shortest at the rear.

After that, you will need to cut out sections of plywood to fit into the box. Staple 1 to the inside of the outer wall of the dog house. Youll then have to nail the plywood on the inside and the outside. Dependant upon the insulation that you use, youll have to cut it accordingly to what the instructions say.

Cut your door out for your dog house. The base part of the entrance should be a minimum of five inches off the actual floor. You will need to nail molding to the door to stop it from coming apart. Make sure that there aren't any loose nails sticking through the door.

For the roof, you will need to cut one half of a a sheet of plywood. It must be larger than the overall house. It should not lay even, but more like a slope. This frame will be like a frame inside a frame. Once it has been built put aluminum drip edges around the entire roof, and staple 2 layers of plastic sheeting, and then make sure that you staple tar paper, shingels, and any other roof materials. Follow further directions that are provided to you on the materials that you purchased.

You will then have to paint your dog house-make sure that it is non toxic. Make certain that you place the house on a level surface, and according to the weather conditions you may need to move it.

Unique Useful and Economic House Decorating Ideas

Interior design just isn't anything that requires a large fortune to make. It's not some thing that needs to be filled at once. The ideal way to decorate a home is one step at a time, 1 piece at a time. This creates the system a smaller amount stressful, fun and quite soon a lot more affordable. Some good ideas to start tiny and work your way.

The painting is 1 of the cheapest issues you are able to do to a room which will impact most immediate and profound impact on the seem and feel of this space. Selecting colors and painting the walls, prior to something else is everything else can also be done to match the colors you put on the walls. A lot more importantly, the paint is some thing how the average individual can do it yourself rather than be forced to hire experts to perform the job. Any proposed home improvement you may do yourself will save a lot more income than you can imagine being.

Once you have effectively changed your walls, you possibly can alter your window treatments. Roman blinds are an very good choice since they're pretty simple to complete (which leaves you only the cost of fabric and supplies), but they are not the only option. I would recommend some type of curtains as being a type of window treatment due to the fact they're a lot more very own than the mini-blinds are in so many homes today. Curtains or roman shades can be purchased based on the colors on the walls, and should not be a incredibly high-priced investment.

Floors inside the past usually been absent from those who seek to relax to improve the appearance in the room. New technologies and materials have made a new floor can also be an option for people who have extremely limited budget for ones home. Laminates are a good option for those who love the look of hardwood, but cannot afford the price of materials and / or placement of these plans in their homes. Laminates can always be mounted on their abilities and make a critical transform inside the appear in the room. Peel and stick tile is an additional alternative for individuals whose budgets don't install laminate flooring. Check options and costs of one's local retailer for the home. It could simply be amazed at what you'll be able to afford.

Rather than buying new furniture for an impressive impact on a appearance of your home, try furniture covers. These can always be purchased in colors to match your new layout and is significantly cheaper than new furniture, leaving money to tiny data in each the general appearance from the room. In fact, once close friends and family members occur and see the changes, they will be shocked and surprised. They may perhaps even be convinced that you simply really new furniture.

Mirrors are beneficial tools to use after decorating a home. A lot more importantly, they're inexpensive for your most part. Mirrors also lend the appearance of the a lot more open than there are no mirrors would achieve. In case you have a fireplace, strategically placed mirrors can spread the warmth and comfort (if not hot) fire in the room generating the space like a whole seems to become a significantly nicer location to escape inside the winter "blah".

Art, candles, vases, and floral arrangements can buy a single piece at a time, to give the room a brighter appearance. Once you have decorated a room within your home budget with these tips in mind, it is possible to move to other parts of one's home and incorporate the same ideals on the fly. Remember that decorating your home should not price a fortune, but it takes a smaller patience and planning on your part. In this spirit, there need to be absolutely nothing stopping you from heading to work today and plans to achieve their new home decor.

Unique House Improvement Cost

House improvement is a necessary part of being a homeowner. There is always something to do to keep the house in top shape. House improvement projects add to the overall value of a house and are considered a prudent investment.

House improvement projects cost some money and range from not so expensive projects to really costly ones. It is easy to think of house improvement as DIY projects but there is so much more to house improvement. A lot of homeowners prefer to make use of professional services for their house improvement projects. Even though house improvement companies might be more expensive at first, they save on a lot of money in the long run.

When considering house improvement cost, you have a choice between getting a complete overhaul of your home and doing a reface of target areas. For instance, if you want to work on your kitchen cabinets, you could either put in new, custom made cabinets or reface the old ones that were there. A reface costs almost half of what an overhaul would and is popular among a lot of homeowners. However, if your budget extends to a total overhaul, that might be your best option as you get more flexibility with the final outlook of your home.

House improvement cost will depend a lot on what sort of work you would like done on your house. If you decide to work on your bathroom, you would need to consider if you want to replace the bathtub and what sort you would like to replace it with. Depending on your budget, you could get anything from the standard, everyday bathtub to a whirlpool bathtub. To add a luxurious feel to your bathroom, you might want to go with a clawfoot tub. Clawfoot tubs are usually a bit more expensive than the regular standard bathtub but if you can afford it, it will make a nice addition to your bathroom.

The roof is another key area you should look into when improving your house. Besides keeping safe from the forces of nature, a beautiful roof could be the difference between a good a bad value for your house when selling. A complete replacement of your roof costs more than a partial replacement or a routine refurbishment. If the state of your roof is really bad, a complete replacement is recommended even though it will add to your house improvement cost.

Changing the heating system of your house would also add to the house improvement cost. However, if the heating system is old or terribly faulty, you would have to factor that into your budget.

Replacing the doors and windows could change the look of the house and give it a more modern and sophisticated look. Door and windows add to house improvement cost and a lot of homeowners are tempted to overlook those. However, in an old house, changing them could save a lot in the long run because if they are drafty, you would end up spending much more on energy.

Before you begin a project it is necessary to have a good idea of the house improvement cost. Better still, get a good house improvement company to give you cost estimates.

Unique 5 Tips when Purchasing Pond Liner

However, if you are thinking of moving house and taking your pond with you they might be a practical option in the short term, with view to creating a larger, lined pond at your future address.

Pond liners can be made to fit practically any sized pond and there are a number of choices when it comes to choosing your pond liner, many of them come with a life time warranty and can be very cost effective.

The types of liners available on the market are:

PVC – This is a budget option pond liner which can be purchase in 0.5mm and 0.8mm thickness. A PVC pond liner can be folded and taped to fit your pond and is suitable for smaller ponds, it is advised that you use pond underlay with your PVC liner to ensure that it lasts as long as possible. This type of pond liner does actually come with a lifetime warranty but this will be subject to correct usage and care. PVC pond liners are available in a number of sizes but these sizes are restricted to a maximum of 25m X 12m in the 0.5mm, and 25m X 10m in the 0.8mm, it is not recommended that you try to exceed these sizes by attaching 2 pieces together, if you do require a larger liner then it would be advisable to choose either a Greenseal or Firestone rubber pond liner.

Greenseal – This liner is probably the closest to Butyl, as Butyl pond liners are not often an option anymore due to the import costs other liners have been developed to take their place and the Greenseal pond liner is really the next best thing. The Greenseal pond liner can be purchased in thickness of 0.75mm or 1mm and is a textured rubber pond liner that is easy to fold and shape to fit your pond.

Also with a lifetime warranty (subject to care and usage) this liner is available in 8m width X up to 40m length and you can purchase 2 sizes and attach them together if you require a larger size. It is still recommended that you use pond liner underlay, this is simply to protect your liner from any objects which may protrude from the soil beneath.

Firestone – Available in 1mm thickness this liner has a smoother rubber texture and although it can still be folded, it may be more difficult to position than the 0.75mm Greenseal simply due to how thick it is. Although this is the toughest pond liner in the market place it is still recommended that a pond liner underlay is used. The Firestone pond liner also has a lifetime warranty subject to care and usage and is available in 15.24m width and up to 30.48m in length.

Box Liner – The advantage of these liners is that they fit to the exact size of your pond and are ideal for odd shaped ponds. The only disadvantage is that you may have to pay a little more and wait a little longer, but when your liner arrives at least you will be able to place it straight into you pond with little messing and no creasing. You do have to be spot on with the measurements that you give for your box liner, in fact you have to be to the exact cm or you will find that you have the dig a little further or fill in your pond so that your liner fits.

Pond Liner Underlay – This is a vital purchase with any of the pond liners as it will help to protect your pond liner from any foreign particles such as rocks and roots in the soil underneath. You should always try to remove as many objects as you possibly can from the soil to try to reduce any damage being caused to your liner, as even though the underlay will provide much more protection than not having any at all the underlay could still be damaged causing risk to your liner. Underlay is always the best option of protection for your liner as it will not rot over time and so should always provide a protective barrier for your liner as long as you need it.

There is also the ability to extend or fix your liner into the desired shape, to do this you would need 2 items which are quick prime plus and form flash repair tape. These items should be used in conjunction with one another, quick prime plus is an adhesive which needs to be pasted onto your pond liner, the attaching/folding piece of liner is then placed on top and you then seal this with the form flash repair tape. You can also purchase tools to assist you when doing this such as rollers which will help to secure the liners together as securely as possible.

If by any chance your liner does spring a leak, do not despair as there are ways which you can fix it. First of all you will need to establish where the leak is coming from; you may have a good idea if for example you have dropped something sharp into the pond. If you think that the damage is toward the top of the pond you could choose to let the pond drain of its own accord until it is below this level, then add baking power along the part of the liner where the water has drained and the leak will be highlighted with a damp spot as water can still seep through from the underside of the liner. To repair the liner you will need a PVC patch if you have a PVC liner or a rubber repair kit if it is a rubber pond liner, these kits create a waterproof barrier and so your liner will again be able to hold water with no problems.

Keep in mind though that if you are unsure where exactly the leak is you really shouldn’t not just let the water drain as if it is lower in the pond liner then you could risk killing any fish you have in your pond. If you do not know where the leak it is recommended that you filter the pond water into a holding tank and also transfer you fish. The pond liner then can still be repaired in the same way as mentioned earlier and if you do find that you have to drain the entire pond then it might also be a good idea to do any required pond maintenance whilst you are there.
